An award winning self-thought photographer, Adam Rountree was born in Sligo, Ireland, in 1981. He grew up in mainland Japan where he discovered his passion for photography.

Rountree moved to New York City in 2000 where he spent seven years working as a photojournalist. In NYC Rountree covered political, business, and feature stories for The New York Times, The Associated Press, Getty Images, and Bloomberg News. Rountree also covered international stories for GAMMA Presse. Rountree’s work has been published in Time, Newsweek, The New York Times, and other international magazines and newspapers.

In 2002, Rountree traveled to the Middle East to cover the region’s reaction to the US led war on terror. Subsequently, for 40 days during the summer of 2005, Rountree documented both sides of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict as it centered on the forcible removal of Jewish settlers from the Gaza Strip and West Bank.

In October of 2005, his interest in photographing borders, both real and political, as well as the effects of poverty on population migration led Rountree to journey through Honduras, Guatemala and Mexico with a small group of young Honduran men attempting to immigrate illegally to the United States.

Rountree returned to the immigration issue in July 2006 when he spent 5 days with US Border Patrol along the Arizona-Mexico border.

Rountree works and resides in both Connecticut and New York City.

Rountree will be traveling to Africa, Afghanistan, and Mongolia in 2009 for a long-term documentary project focusing on children and their living environments.
